I Played My Voice Demo at a Party & Here’s What Happened (!!)

16 Oct

It’s sometimes fun to play my professional voice demo for random folks that don’t quite understand what I do by simply saying, “I’m a voice talent.”  Then I say, well — if I play my demo for you, I’m sure you’ll understand right away… And, they do!

It’s also fun to hear people saying over the recording… “Is that YOU?!”
Why yes.  Yes, it is me.

Ahhhhh, the life of a voice talent!

If you haven’t heard my professional demo in a while, feel free to have a listen here on YouTube :: http://bit.ly/RoseDemo

Recording vs. Going Live!

12 Sep

Screen Shot 2018-09-12 at 3.30.58 PM

Going live on social media can be a very powerful tool.  For a person in the voice business though — we are used to being alone in the recording booth!  Being live means everyone can SEE you, even if you make a mistake.  As a Voice Talent, I am not that fond of showing people that I trip over words sometimes, even though I should be more relaxed about it.  After all, I AM NOT PERFECT.  << I had to put that in caps + bold to remind myself (Ha ha!)

What is perfect — is being yourself.  Going live & giving it your all.  I recently read an article about a bear attack in Montana & I’m thinking about going live to read it.  It’s fascinating!  It would serve as a reminder that I can read very well out loud with minimal errors… That is, if I’m having a good day!  I think the article is so good, that it will keep people interested.  Even if I do mess up a few words – reading to lift the words off a page & tell a story is still authentic as to what I do.

& this example will show I can do just about anything (including staying at the same campground where there was a bear attack!).  I will relate to my audience that if I can read a long-formatted item & keep it exciting for listeners, just think of what I can do for voicemail systems, videos & other recordings  😉  We shall see!  & check out the article for yourself here:

& yes, I AM going to that campground this weekend!  They no longer allow tents here (for good reason), so I’ll be in my car.  I hope to sleep soundly!

Voice Brand FAIL.

13 Aug

Screen Shot 2018-08-13 at 5.33.15 PM

I apologize to the local business in Jackson Hole that I’m going to highlight for this, but really – it’s a great lesson learned for all businesses in this area & beyond.

This video is a perfect example of how businesses cut corners.  They think, “Well, we paid someone to give us those great visuals, but we’ll just have the office manager do the voice over.”  (Or, something similar to this…)  I don’t actually know who did this voice over, but if you’re a professional – I’m sure you’ll agree with me that this voice was not a professional.  This, my friends, is the result:

A Love Letter…

In my humble opinion, this is an example of what you don’t want your branding to SOUND like.  For me, the awesome visuals went flat when I kept hearing this terrible voice trying to make me feel like I should connect with it!

In addition, I recently went to a huge nonprofit organization’s picnic & was horrified when I heard the voice on the video.  They hired awesome video talent to create the story, & then the voice was that of a board member.  & it really was awful!  It didn’t give a “tug-of-the-heartstrings” feel for the video at all.

Businesses are coming around with regards to their video visuals… but, I wonder how long it will take for people to understand that voice branding is just as important.  I hope it’s soon!

Pitching Voice Over to Businesses in Europe!

9 Jul

Jul13

Guess what time it is!?  That’s right, it’s almost time for me to take (somewhat of) a work break – just in time for the height of the summer season!  I’m headed to New York on business & then over to Switzerland & Italy for some additional business & pleasure.  But you know… I’m always working as a solopreneur  😉

I’m always excited to mention to businesses I work in the voice over field… It’s interesting to meet business people from Europe & see how I might be able to work with them in the future for English recordings.  For example, #Interlaken is a very large city with many cultures.  There may be an opportunity for me to do a recording in English on the trains, or on an explainer video on how to be safe in the mountains.  #Milan is a big city to explore & see what recordings I might hear in museums or cathedrals.  Just listening to people’s voices in different places allows me to get the vibe of a place too.

So, enjoy summertime in all its glory & chat with you more in mid-August when I return to the States.  As always, check out my Insta account at @JacksonHoleRose if you’d like to see more of my travels as a solopreneur!

Podcast Intro Recording for Catch A Healthy Habit Podcast!

26 Jun

Screen Shot 2018-06-25 at 9.11.10 PM

If you listen to podcasts, you know that the intro is important… it’s got to sound professional and interesting!  Its purpose is to draw you in, so that listening to the podcast is the next step.

I recently worked on a podcast intro for a gentleman who owns a business called Catch A Healthy Habit Cafe in Fairfield, Connecticut (where I lived for some years)… He also does a regular podcast that reflects his business name!  I wrote this intro, voiced & produced it with music. In addition to the other voice work I do, I also complete this type of voiceover work for those of you that have friends with podcasts!

My StoryCorps Recording with Bob Strobel from See Jackson Hole in Wyoming

30 May

Screen Shot 2018-05-30 at 11.33.44 AM

It’s a very exciting day, because it’s recording day!

If you didn’t know – “StoryCorps” is an American non-profit organization whose mission is to record, preserve and share the stories of Americans from all backgrounds and beliefs.  Bob Strobel & I have been colleagues in Jackson Hole for awhile now, & I respect his way of doing business in our community immensely.  When we found out this org was coming to OUR small Wyoming town, we jumped at the chance to do a recording!

Our recording will be entitled, “Revolutionizing Jackson Hole With Bob Strobel & Rose Caiazzo” in which we will discuss technology & how it’s been revolutionizing our small town of Jackson Hole (that keeps getting bigger over the years)!  Bob is very much into the video side of things, where as I am more involved with the overall social media side (that’s my other business, besides voice over).  Our conversation will be recorded by StoryCorps & then archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress for future generations to hear.  How exciting!

Also, segments of select interviews may even air nationally on NPR’s Morning Edition!  Plus, all recordings can also be heard on the StoryCorps website.  Once I have the link to Bob & I’s StoryCorps discussion, I’ll be sharing it here…

Here’s to talking technology — from when the internet started to the year 2018!

Voice Attraction…

10 Apr

Screen Shot 2018-04-09 at 7.47.48 PM

Recently, I read a blog post by Voice Over Talent, Rick Lance.  He is a fantastic gentleman in the biz.  The post he wrote was about scientific research that allows the sound of one person’s voice to be more attractive than another’s.

I’ve heard the stories behind deeper pitch & lighter breaths, but something else in this research shocked me… Apparently, most listeners prefer an accent and language pattern similar to their own.  When I was growing up, I did NOT like the sound of a New York accent.  In fact, I listened to the radio a lot as a kid & changed my speech to sound like them instead.  Rick also mentions that some people, even after living in an area for several decades, will still hold on to accents from the areas they were born and raised in.

Ay!  If I wanna turn on the New Yawk – ya better watch out.  >> Especially since my parents were from Queens & Brooklyn.  So, although I may not deem that particular accent attractive to me, I can sure fit in at any time when I go back east <wink!>

You can read Rick’s blog post in full at this link:  What Makes a Voice Attractive?
