How Many Seconds?

21 Sep

Wow.  15 seconds.  That’s all you’ve got to impress the Producers, Directors & Casting Agents of the world with your voice.

In a time where the recording industry has changed greatly & “everyone seems to be doing it,” it’s up to you as a true talent to put your best foot forward.  More often than not, the person selected to hire a voice over actor doesn’t have the time to listen to the full demo of everyone that submits.

How do you differentiate yourself then?  Here’s some tips:

* Take the time to read & understand a script before recording, don’t just record!
* Determine what the client is trying to sell (Italian food, toothpaste, flowers?)
* Clearly identify what audience is the client trying to sell to (teens, new moms, retired males?)
* Decide the best tonality & emotion to use (upbeat, serious, exasperated?)

Try these steps to think things through & you might just be one step closer to the voice they are looking for — in addition to being hired for more VO jobs in the future!

Happy Recording!
